A carved depiction of the human face usually representing that of a notable ancestor that is often set to the gable of a wharenui - ancestral meeting house.
Although there is a common theme and overall look to wheku, they can as unique as the artists who create them whether it be whakairo (carving), Moko (maori tattoo), drawing etc.
