Tane coupled with Hineahuone and begat Hineatauira, the flashing dawn maiden and first human. Then Tane made Hineatauira a wife and they begat Uru. But Tane did not inform Hineatauira who in fact Tane was. Hineatauira was a curious open woman and she asked Tane about her father. Tane’s response caused Hine to realise that she had been deceived which angered and shamed her and there she became Hinetitama, the deceived maiden.
